Retirees Turning Age 65:
Additional Information About Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans

Your first name, middle initial, gender, Social Security number and date of birth on record with your agency must match the Social Security Administration’s records. If there is any discrepancy between Social Security and your agency’s records, your eligibility for the Retired Employees Health Program (REHP) could be impacted. You may confirm this information by contacting Social Security at 1-800-772-1213; TTY users should call 1-800-325-0778.

Understanding Medicare and Your REHP Plan

You will be enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan PPO. A Medicare Advantage Plan provides coverage for Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B services and includes additional benefits.

Medicare Part A: Medicare Part A provides coverage for inpatient care at a hospital or skilled nursing facilities. It also covers Hospice care and home health care. There is no premium for Part A coverage if you and your spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.

Medicare Part B: Medicare Part B provides coverage for medically-necessary services like doctor’s services and tests, outpatient care, home health services, durable medical equipment and some preventive services. You pay a premium for Medicare Part B, which is generally deducted from your Social Security check.

Medicare Part C: A Medicare Advantage Plan (PPO or HMO) is called “Part C” or “MA Plan.” The REHP provides a Medicare Advantage (or Part C) plans to its members. This Medicare Advantage PPO offers extra benefits such as a free gym membership. To be eligible for the Medicare Open Access PPO, you must enroll in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.

Medicare Part D: Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage. REHP Medicare-eligible members are enrolled in the SilverScript prescription drug plan which is a Medicare Part D plan.  The REHP Prescription Drug Plan, offered by SilverScript, does not have a coverage gap or “donut hole” that you would find with other Part D plans. Do not enroll in a separate Part D plan. If you enroll in a separate Part D plan, you will be disenrolled from the Medicare PPO plan and the SilverScript prescription drug plan.
